Coastguard rescue man from mud

LONDON. June 6/8, 2008/3mnewswire.org/ -- At three minutes to four this afternoon MRCC Swansea received a 999 call from a man that had become stuck up to his knees in the mud at Barry Old Harbour.

Barry Island Coastguard Mud rescue team were called out and extracted the casualty that was showing signs of hypothermia, he was transferred to the awaiting ambulance on scene who then took him to hospital for a check up.


South Wales Fire and Rescue, Welsh Ambulance service and South Wales Police also attended.

David Jones, Swansea Coastguard said:

During the periods of low water springs the public must be aware that care should be taken when walking along the low water mark and ensure that they check local tide times as sand can quickly turn to mud.

Many parts of the coastline around the Severn estuary has muddy shorelines due to the high rise and fall of tide.
