Brownback Press Conference to Announce Chinese Wholesale Spying on Olympic Hotel Guests
Will release translated documents ordering Internet surveillance of all guests at hotels near Olympic venues
WASHINGTON, July 28 /Standard Newswire/ -- U.S. Senator Sam Brownback tomorrow will hold a press conference at Noon to release translated documents, verified by two major international hotel chains with operations in China, that order all hotels near Olympic venues to install surveillance monitoring programs on all Internet traffic prior to the Olympics.
The State Department has long warned that travelers to China should consider all communications unsecure and that China routinely censors Internet traffic. The additional order given to all hotels to further enable the Communist Chinese government to monitor and record all Internet communications leading up to the Olympics is aimed at visiting guests and journalists.
From the document: "In order to ensure the smooth opening of Olympic [sic]... It is required that your company install and run the Security Management System for Internet Access from Public Places in addition to provide network interfaces consistent with the industrial technical standards on public security for the implementation the foregoing management and technical measures (the person who access the Internet must be registered in his or her real name)

Baby Raised from the Dead
Baby Raised from the Dead
PRILUKI, Ukraine, July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Svetlana, a former drug addict living in Ukraine used her faith in Jesus to raise a baby from the dead. After being submerged in bathtub water for twenty minutes Svetlana's found her niece, blue, not breathing and no pulse. Crying out to God, Svetlana remembered her own deliverance from drugs and sickness and found faith to proclaim the name of Jesus that resulted in this miracle.
Knowing the reality of the power of God because of her own deliverance and miracle, when faced with the situation of a dead baby in her arms, Svetlana began to shout out the name of Jesus. Peter Mehl, founder of Russian Harvest Ministries reported, "Svetlana, as with all of our missionaries, was mentored to believe the whole Bible and that miracles are to be normal for a Christian's life. She simply put to practice what she learned and believed."
Svetlana, a former drug addict was on her deathbed five years ago when she was reached for Christ by a Russian Harvest Ministries (RHM) missionary. She was facing prison time for drug dealing but officials released her to return home to die after a doctor's diagnosis of a fatal disease. Frail and unable to walk, she was carried on a stretcher to the ministries drug rehab center. Thirty days later, after daily prayer, Bible reading, and anointing with oil, Svetlana was healed and became a walking miracle.
She now serves as a missionary with RHM and is director of Russian Harvest Ministries Women's Drug Rehab Center. Svetlana's story will inspire Christian's to believe God for the impossible.
Russian Harvest Ministries founded by Peter Mehl is a church planting ministry in Ukraine with a vision to pioneer 1,000 churches.

Massachusetts Rejects Wrong Marriage Decision
Massachusetts Rejects Wrong Marriage Decision
Attempts to Foist Same-Sex "Marriage" Onto Other States
WASHINGTON, July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Yesterday, the Massachusetts Senate voted to repeal its long-standing law that only residents of Massachusetts can marry in that state.
"Massachusetts' officials have foisted same- sex 'marriage' on its citizens and refused to allow legislators and citizens to vote on it," said Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA). "Now they are trying to export same- sex 'marriage'. Repealing its 1913 law on marriage has only one purpose -- to attempt to impose same- sex 'marriage' on other states. This proves that the Defense of Marriage Act is necessary -- to ensure citizens retain the right to protect marriage in their states -- and why a Federal Marriage Amendment needs to be passed to define what has always been true, that marriage is between one man and one woman.
"Massachusetts' legislators rejected the wrong marriage decision. They should have rejected the concept that same-sex 'marriage' can be allowed, rather than attempting to trample on the citizens of other states who respect marriage."
CWA of Massachusetts State Director Tammy Mosher said, "This is a sad day for Massachusetts and the nation when activists can overturn a law which even the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has said is constitutional."
The House is expected to take up the repeal of the 1913 law this Friday. Voters are urged to express their opposition to this repeal by contacting Massachusetts State Representatives. This link gives e-mail addresses and phone numbers for the House: http://www.mass.gov/legis/memmenuh.htm
"Citizens can make their voice heard today. Don't let Massachusetts meddle in other states' marriage laws," said Mosher.

The Most Eloquent Spokesperson for the Unborn
The Most Eloquent Spokesperson for the Unborn
ATLANTA, July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- The most qualified, and most eloquent spokesperson for the unborn is "Baby Choice!" She has traveled across our nation seven times to be a voice for the voiceless.
"By faith he still speaks, even though he is dead." Hebrews 11:4b
She calls the Church of Jesus Christ to repentance for it's apathy.
She calls our nation to repentance for allowing the murder of over 50 million little boys and girls.
She is the voice of choice calling to all who will hear.
"This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live." Deuteronomy 30:19
On Thursday July 17, 2008 we will honor Baby Choice's short life and repent of the apathy that made her murder possible. The blood of the innocents murdered through the sin of abortion cries out from the ground in judgment on a people, a church, a city, and a nation that would condone such a tragedy.

Internet Evangelist Vows to Lead Nation Back to God and Biblical Values
Internet Evangelist Vows to Lead Nation Back to God and Biblical Values
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- The world's leading Internet evangelist, Bill Keller - founder of Liveprayer.com and the host of the Liveprayer TV program - has launched the Jonah Project to call the United States to repent, or face the judgment of God. In much the same way as the word delivered by the prophet Jonah 2900 years ago to the ancient city of Nineveh, Keller claims the Lord has called him to warn the nation to turn back to God and Biblical values, or experience His judgment for our sins and wickedness.
Keller - who officially launched the Jonah Project on Monday, July 7th - says a key component of the project will be taking his successful television program to the nation, live, on a major secular network for an hour every Monday through Friday. In addition, a new radio program will be heard live for two hours each weekday on secular stations across the nation. The launch date for the nationwide TV and radio programs is Monday, October 6, 2008. The networks and stations carrying the Liveprayer program will be announced at a special press conference on Monday, September 8, 2008.
In addition to the 2.4 million opt-in subscribers who read the Daily Devotional Keller has written 365 days a year since Liveprayer began in August of 1999, Keller has been a maverick on secular television these past six years. His program - a highly rated, unique, live call-in format that deals from a Biblical worldview with world issues as well as those in people's lives - has aired exclusively on major secular network affiliates in Florida, and for a brief time nationally in 2006. This breaks the typical preaching/teaching program mold established by other ministries of producing primarily for the Christian television market.
Keller sees the Jonah Project as much more than just a call to this nation to repent or face the judgment of God. He believes the Jonah Project is going to be a format for millions of true followers of Christ to come together, and have a true voice in the mainstream media, while mobilizing action to attend to the social ills of our day.
"It is a relatively few number of people who have made the sin of homosexuality mainstream, legalized the killing of babies, removed God from the public forum, and been responsible for the proliferation of pornography and gambling," laments Keller. "Through the Jonah Project - for the first time in a meaningful way - we are going to mobilize millions of true followers of Jesus Christ, and witness many of these social ills that plague our nation wiped out!"
"In the past, attempts to mobilize Christians has been for political, not spiritual, purposes," adds Keller. "We aren't bringing Christians together to elect people we agree with to office, but rather to have our voice heard and our views represented in the culture, and to exercise our beliefs just as those who oppose Biblical values have exercised their beliefs on our society."
Keller sees a byproduct of the Jonah Product not only being a move back to God and Biblical values in this nation, but in other nations around the world. He hopes to unleash a spiritual revival that will bring millions of people around the globe to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Mass. Grand Jury Issues Indictment Against Abortionist in Patient's Death
Mass. Grand Jury Issues Indictment Against Abortionist in Patient's Death
Details of efforts to cover up aspects of Laura Smith's death were exposed by the grand jury investigation.
HYANNIS, Mass., July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- A Barnstable County Grand Jury issued an indictment today against abortionist Rapin Osathanondh for Involuntary Manslaughter in the death of 22-year old Laura Hope Smith. According to Smith's mother, Eileen, efforts to cover up details of her daughter's death came to light during the grand jury investigation.
Mrs. Smith told Operation Rescue that a Sheriff's Deputy in another county had provided Osathanondh and his abortion clinic staff with CPR training, then backdated the session to a date prior to Laura's death, with the full knowledge that someone had recently died at the clinic. Osathanondh and his staff had been uncertified in CPR until that time.
"I'm appalled that an officer of the law would be involved in that," Eileen Smith told Operation Rescue. "Thank God this has been exposed!"
Mrs. Smith has filed a complaint in Bristol County against the deputy.
Laura Smith had sought an abortion from Osathanondh on September 13, 2007, at his office, Women's Health Center, in the Cape Cod town of Hyannis. Smith was placed under full anesthesia when only Osathanondh and a non-medical receptionist were present. When Smith suddenly stopped breathing, the receptionist phoned 911, but it was too late. Smith died later that day.
Five months later, in response to a complaint filed by Eileen Smith, Osathanondh relinquished his medical license to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine in the wake of pending disciplinary action and a criminal investigation. Osathanondh's two abortion offices were closed.
"We are gratified that Osathanondh will have to account for Laura's death in a court of law. It is not enough that he can no longer practice medicine. He must be held legally responsible for his crimes that resulted in the death of this young woman," said Operation Rescue spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. "Only then can we say that some small measure of justice has been served."
"As for those who attempted to help Osathanondh cover up for his shocking lack of emergency training, we share Eileen's dismay that someone involved in law enforcement would lie to provide the abortionist cover," said Sullenger. "That is completely unacceptable behavior and that person should be fired immediately."
Operation Rescue was the first to break the news of Laura's death, and worked with Eileen to help bring Osathanondh to justice.
About Operation Rescue
Operation Rescue is one of the leading pro-life Christian activist organizations in the nation. Operation Rescue recently made headlines when it bought and closed an abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas and has become the voice of the pro-life activist movement in America. Its activities are on the cutting edge of the abortion issue, taking direct action to restore legal personhood to the pre-born and stop abortion in obedience to biblical mandates.

40 Days for Life Prepares for Largest Pro-Life Mobilization in History
40 Days for Life Prepares for Largest Pro-Life Mobilization in History
WASHINGTON, July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Cities across America are applying to participate in the fall 2008 nationally coordinated 40 Days for Life campaign - a focused initiative that promises to be the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history," said David Bereit, national campaign director of 40 Days for Life. "Abortion claims more than 1.2 million innocent lives in the United States each year," he added, "and in 2008, the stakes for our nation are higher than ever. People of faith and conscience are approaching this challenge with a heightened sense of urgency."
40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that features 40 days of prayer and fasting, round-the-clock peaceful vigil outside an abortion facility and grassroots educational outreach. Simultaneous campaigns will be conducted coast-to-coast - and internationally - as part of a unified outreach from September 24 through November 2. Local pro-life leaders are now applying to host 40 Days for Life campaigns in their cities this fall ( http://www.40daysforlife.com/apply.cfm). The application period continues until July 29.
"The rapid expansion of this effort has exceeded our wildest expectations," said Bereit. "As shown on the map on the 40 Days for Life web site ( http://www.40daysforlife.com/location.cfm), more than 300 cities across America, and in four other countries, have already stepped forward and expressed interest in the fall campaign. People are eager to get started."
This fall's effort will mark the third nationally coordinated 40 Days for Life campaign. In previous efforts in 139 cities across 43 states, 150,000 people have responded to the call for prayer and fasting. Over 35,000 have prayed outside abortion facilities and Planned Parenthood centers. More than 500 unborn children have been confirmed saved from abortion. Abortion workers have quit their jobs and left the industry, and two abortion facilities that were the sites of 40 Days for Life prayer vigils - in Dallas, Texas, and Rockland County, New York - have gone out of business.
Said Bereit, "This clearly demonstrates the importance of maintaining a regular, prayerful presence outside abortion facilities where the lives of the unborn are at risk. The call to participate in 40 Days for Life is a call to sacrifice. It's a call that people of faith are taking very seriously. We can't wait to see what is in store for America this fall!"

Boycott Beijing Olympics, China Expert Says
Boycott Beijing Olympics, China Expert Says
FRONT ROYAL, Va., July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Steven W. Mosher, well-known China expert, calls for a boycott of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, saying that the games will only serve to legitimize a one-party dictatorship that has a deplorable human rights record.
"The Olympics is intended to be a celebration of the human spirit," says Mosher. "But the spirit of the Chinese people, not to mention the spirit of the Tibetans and other minorities, is being crushed under the weight of an oppressive regime. We should no more celebrate the Olympics in China in 2008, than we should have celebrated the Olympics in Nazi- controlled Berlin in 1936."
Mosher reminds the world that China's rights record has not improved in recent years, rather, it has actually gotten worse. "China is one of the worst violators of human rights in the world," he explains. "Given the Chinese Communist Party bragging rights over the games makes a mockery of their meaning."
Mosher has formed the "Beijing Boycott Coalition" to oppose the Beijing Olympics. The coalition invites activists and groups of different backgrounds to join in protesting ongoing human rights violations in China by refusing to watch the games or patronize its sponsors.
All individuals and groups concerned about human rights, whether their issue is the suppression of journalism, the persecution of religious groups, or forced abortion, are welcome to join the coalition. The Beijing Boycott Coalition reaches across ideological boundaries to include all those who care deeply about human rights and the Chinese people, and want to send a message to the Beijing regime.

The Population Research Institute (PRI) was founded in 1989 by Fr. Steven Mosher is the author of numerous books, including Population Control: Real Costs and Illusory Benefits.

'SHALE OIL NOW' Campaign Launched for Energy Independence
'SHALE OIL NOW' Campaign Launched for Energy Independence
WASHINGTON, July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- The "SHALE OIL NOW" Project has been launched to demand that Congress, the Administration, State governments, and business achieve energy independence for the United States by 2015.
A complete information center is being assembled at: www.ShaleOilNow.com.
The "SHALE OIL NOW" Campaign, founded by Executive Director, Jon Moseley, is demanding a Manhattan Project or "Let us land a man on the Moon" national cash project to develop shale oil and achieve 100% independence from foreign oil.
America has an Estimated 1 to 2 Trillion Barrels of oil locked in shale in the Midwest. That could be as much as 8 times the total proven oil reserves of Saudi Arabia. America could be energy independent within 5 years.
Any alternatives to our oil economy are at least 30 years away (possibly never), except for minor sources that are a drop in the bucket of America's needs.
The nation of Estonia has been commercially extracting shale oil for more than a decade. Estonia has no natural energy resources, except some hydroelectric. Therefore, they must use shale oil or freeze in the Winter. A phone call to the Embassy of Estonia in Washington, D.C., to the very knowledgeable commercial attache, will confirm that Estonia has been advising the U.S. Department of Energy at the technical level since 1999 on techniques for extracting oil from shale.
The Unocal demonstration project in Colorado proved it. A demonstration project in Queensland, Australia (under similar conditions) produced 700,000 barrels of commercial crude oil from 2001 to 2003.
More water was created than consumed by the Unocal / Paraho demonstration project in Colorado. Opponents say that extracting shale oil "requires" large amounts of water in an otherwise dry part of the Rocky Mountain / Midwest. Untrue. The Paraho project in Colorado created so much surplus water that they had to build evaporation plants to get rid of all the excess water.
The dominant issue for shale oil is that traditional oil has always been cheaper. But whenver oil prices are consistently above $40 per barrel, shale oil is a profitable undertaking.
Efforts to extract shale oil have broken a lot of hearts along the way. That is because oil prices dropped to $19 per barrel in the early 1990's.
Simply using "brute force," we know we can do it. The only question is can we do it better.

Tiller Abortion Collaborators Exposed
Tiller Abortion Collaborators Exposed
A list of thirty companies that enable Tiller's disreputable abortion business is released to the public
WICHITA, Kansas, July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today Operation Rescue released the latest list of businesses that help abortionist George R. Tiller continue his questionably legal abortion business.
The project, called the Abortion Collaborators, was first launched in 2004 with a list of over 50 businesses that did work for Tiller's late-term abortion clinic, Women's Health Care Services. Since then 25 businesses - a full 50% - have stopped collaborating with Tiller. Today's list contains 30 business listings.
This announcement follows on the heals of the decision by two physicians and the Wichita Clinic to stop providing the second signature for Tiller's post-viability abortions after Operation Rescue reported that Burt Odenheimer and another physician had been secretly seeing Tiller patients. Within hours of Operation Rescue's announcement, the Wichita Clinic confirmed that the two physicians had volunteered to stop providing that service for Tiller effective immediately.
"This victory underscores the effectiveness of the Abortion Collaborators campaign," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "Tiller's political cronies may be willing to prop up Tiller's business, but the community proved this week that it is not."
The purpose of the Abortion Collaborators project is to expose those with dealings with Tiller, so that people of conscience can avoid them and, more importantly, so that members of the community can contact them and ask them to stop participating in the promotion and enabling of abortion. Operation Rescue has re- published an updated booklet explaining the need for the Abortion Collaborators campaign.
"Some attempt to justify these dealings with abortionists as simply a business decision. 'One has a right to make a living,' they often say. However, history has clearly spoken on this matter. Throughout time and across the globe it has been considered morally reprehensible to collaborate with those who would callously destroy innocent lives, especially when that collaboration advances the cause of the oppressors," said OR spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. "Applying those long established social mores to abortion collaborators, it becomes very clear that one does not morally have the right to make a living off the backs of dead children. The profiteering from innocent bloodshed goes beyond compromise; it is an act of treason against God and man."
Operation Rescue encourages the public to review the list of Tiller Abortion Collaborators, and as they are led, contact them and ask them to stop doing business with Tiller.

15 Reasons Why Homosexuality is Wrong and Hurts Society
15 Reasons Why Homosexuality is Wrong and Hurts Society
SAN DIEGO, July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- "The wicked strut about on every side when vileness is exalted among the sons of men." Psalm 12:8
Biblical Family Advocates passionately implores Pastors and Churches to educate themselves regarding the Biblical and societal implications of engaging in homosexuality. Readers are encouraged to go to the Biblical Family Advocates website and read the article, "15 Reasons Why Homosexuality is Wrong and Hurts Society." The article discusses such things as the higher infidelity and domestic violence rates of homosexual relationships, why homosexuality is not genetic, as well as understanding why the Bible cannot support homosexual marriage. More importantly, it offers links and insights as to how those who are caught in the bondage of homosexuality can be set free.
Phil Magnan, President of Biblical Family Advocates states that "The Holy Scriptures certainly cannot accept homosexuality as moral, but it should be shouted from the rooftops that Christ can change a person's orientation, even changing their sexual desires. I know that this is unbelievable to many homosexuals as they cannot believe that change is possible; but there are many who now have left the emptiness of that lifestyle to follow the real Jesus of the Bible. It is truly a denial of reality that has been perpetrated by the homosexual community that change is impossible. Such a denial is sustained by the desire of homosexuals to avoid forsaking a life of sin which robs them from being freed in Christ.
It is also important that churches begin to confront the growing apostate church movements that engage in the damnable practice of putting their people into sexual and spiritual bondage; proclaiming homosexuality as normal and God given. These kinds of apostate clergy are "promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption." 2 Peter 2:19
Any church that teaches that immorality is acceptable is operating in the spirit of 'Jezebel' which was referred to in the book of Revelation; "who teach their people to practice immorality." This wicked movement was also spoken of in Ezekiel 22:26. These are the Pastors and Priests who have "done violence to the Law of God" by "making no distinction between the holy and the profane." Rightly does the scripture also say, "He who says to the wicked, 'You are righteous,' Peoples will curse him, nations will abhor him; But to those who rebuke the wicked will be a delight, And a good blessing will come upon them." Proverbs 24:24- 25
Sadly these homosexuals "will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires", as warned in 2 Timothy 4:3. But Christ offers us all forgiveness and transformation so that we will imitate the holy nature of Christ, not the lusts of this world. Homosexuality runs counter to the nature and holiness of God."
Magnan continued, "Attitudes about homosexuality can seem to slip into greater acceptance and affirmation of that sin, but God does not change. As Christians we are commissioned to call all people to repentance and the gospel; to offer less than this condemns those in this perverted and unnatural practice to be trapped in it. Ultimately, anyone who does not forsake any immoral lifestyle will not inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9. This not only goes for homosexuals, but adulterers and fornicators as well. Same sex attraction is a sinful temptation that must be resisted as much as heterosexual men or women who must not lust after others. This is why we must rely on God to give us the grace to live godly lives. For the 'grace of God instructs us to deny ungodliness.' Titus 2:12 But sadly many have turned the 'grace of God into license to sin.' Jude 1:4
"We must no longer consider that the identity of homosexuality as fixed when so many have been able to forsake it through Christ. To speak otherwise is to do violence to power of the gospel."
Biblical Family Advocates implores Churches to consider the facts regarding the reality of homosexuality and begin to reach out to those who want to get out of it in a compassionate and Biblical manner. As the Biblical text says, "and such were some of you", regarding the real possibility of change and forgiveness for adulterers, fornicators and homosexuals alike. The world may be calling people to "follow after their own lusts", 2 Peter 3:3; but "Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, 'The Lord knows those who are His,' and, 'Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.'" 2 Timothy 2:19

Titus 2:12 But sadly many have turned the 'grace of God into license to sin.' Jude 1:4

Theocrats Put Death Mark on Heroine, Punish Father in Fantasy Saga's 3rd Book
Theocrats Put Death Mark on Heroine, Punish Father in Fantasy Saga's 3rd Book
LANCASTER, Texas, July 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Some people just need killing.
Will the ones to die be Helen Andros, outspoken first-generation heroine of the Green Stone of Healing® epic fantasy, and her newly reconciled father?
The astonishing sequel to The Vision and Fallout, The Scorpions Strike debuts today in paperback and e-book. Helen and Lord James Mordecai endure proscription and savage punishment by the state-sanctioned Temple of Kronos.
Under a Temple death mark, Helen learns basic energy manipulation from Maguari the otherworldly Mist-Weaver, and first uses her gem for healing and saving lives. Lord James' political enemies hound him relentlessly and a treacherous ally plots his assassination.
"The Scorpions Strike is fast- paced, action-packed and full of surprises," writes Anne Garber, managing director of evalu8.org. "Just when you think you have figured out where these events might be heading, everything you imagined is thrown out the window."
HealingStone Books today also made available as paperbacks the series' highly praised first two books.
"If you love an intense read, packed with sinister power seekers, grueling heartless characters, yet laced with mystical moments, the lure of peace and healing, and the hope that goodness will prevail, this read is for you," Shirley P. Johnson writes about Fallout in Midwest Book Review.
"Helen is a formidable protagonist," Kirkus Discoveries says about The Vision.
Over several generations of strong female characters, the saga explores what happens when politics and piety collide--how state support for an exclusionary faith leads to worldwide cataclysm that destroys an island nation called Azgard.
Throughout, the heroines and their jewel offer a healing, inclusive alternative to a theocracy that persecutes those who do not look like or share the religious beliefs of those in power.
Author C.L. Talmadge describes the series as, "a blue-state version of 'end-of-the-world' fiction without a traditional religious viewpoint. Instead, it examines alternative spiritual themes and offers a different interpretation of free will and good and evil."
Talmadge’s writing career began in 1976. A political columnist syndicated by North Star Writers group ( www.northstarwriters.com), she has been on staff or freelanced for media including Business Week, the Dallas Times Herald, Forbes, the International Herald Tribune, The New York Times and Reuters America.

Richard Viguerie: Huckabee Proves Again He's No Conservative
MANASSAS, Va., July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, released the following statement regarding Mike Huckabee's endorsement of Alaska Congressman Don Young in a contested Republican primary against Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell:
"Mike Huckabee claims he's a conservative, but his actions show just the opposite. The latest proof is his endorsement of Congressman Don Young in Alaska's Republican Primary.
"Ever since he won the Iowa caucuses, I've been warning my fellow conservatives that Huckabee is a Christian socialist. He's good on social issues but was the most liberal of all the Republican presidential candidates on economic issues.
"Huckabee's Huck PAC is supporting Young against Sean Parnell, a principled conservative. I doubt that very few of the contributors to Huck PAC knew their money would end up helping Young's re-election campaign.
"Young, who is under federal investigation for illegal gratuities and unreported gifts, is a world-class porker, infamous for his Bridge to Nowhere and hundreds of millions in other earmarks.
"Young is an essential part of the massive culture of corruption in politics that runs hand-and-glove with Big Government and is causing almost all Americans to lose confidence in Congress."
NOTE TO EDITORS: Richard A. Viguerie pioneered political direct mail and has been called "one of the creators of the modern conservative movement" (The Nation magazine) and one of the "conservatives of the century" (The Washington Times). His latest book is Conservatives Betrayed: How George W. Bush and Other Big-Government Republicans Hijacked the Conservative Cause (Bonus Books), which, Jerome Corsi wrote in WorldNetDaily, is "destined to become a classic of conservative thinking" and "may be the most important conservative book written in the last quarter century."

CWA Applauds HHS for Upholding Healthcare Providers' Rights
CWA Applauds HHS for Upholding Healthcare Providers' Rights
WASHINGTON, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- According to The New York Times, the Bush administration plans to propose regulations to comply with federal laws to protect patients and healthcare professionals from being forced to provide controversial drugs and procedures such as abortion. The newspaper reports that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has drafted regulations "to ensure that federal money does not 'support morally coercive or discriminatory practices or policies in violation of federal law.'"
Recipients of federal health programs (such as hospitals and clinics) would have to certify that they will not refuse to hire healthcare providers who object to abortion or abortifacients (drugs or devices that can cause an early abortion). The regulation defines abortion as "any of the various procedures -- including the prescription, dispensing and administration of any drug or the performance of any procedure or any other action -- that results in the termination of the life of a human being in utero between conception and natural birth, whether before or after implantation."
"For over 35 years, federal laws have protected the conscientious rights of healthcare professionals, but they were not fully implemented for lack of thorough regulations to enforce them," stated Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA). "As more controversial drugs and procedures get introduced, and additional pressure is put on healthcare providers to either compromise their moral commitments or lose their jobs, the need has become greater for regulations to catch up with the law."
"As patients, we rely on healthcare professionals to provide ethical advice and treatments. Patients will lose trust in the healthcare field if professionals are gagged from giving ethical and well-informed advice or forced to commit procedures or provide drugs that take an innocent life. If healthcare professionals are denied the right to live out their moral beliefs, patients will suffer the consequences."
Abortion proponents reportedly oppose the proposed regulations. "Clearly, abortion advocates do not believe in the 'right to choose' if the choice is not to participate in abortion or provide drugs that can take the life of a human being. The regulation applies to abortion, which is clearly defined as an action that terminates a human life before or after implantation. When abortion advocates claim this regulation would discourage providing 'contraception' it reveals that their definition of 'contraception' includes drugs that would cause abortion."

"Possible Successor to [Billy] Graham" (The New York Times), the "Leading Edge" of Modern-Day Evangelism (ABC World News), Mega-Pastor and Worldwide Crusader--Greg Laurie's Unlikely Personal Story of Near-Ruin to Redemption
RIVERSIDE, Calif., July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Drugs. Abuse. Neglect. The background of Hollywood's latest dysfunctional 'bad boy' giving excuses for his recent trip to rehab? Somewhat ironically, these are the "highlights" of the childhood of Pastor Greg Laurie--a pioneer of the evangelical mega-church movement--detailed in his new autobiography titled Lost Boy (Regal 2008).
Laurie is a bastard in the technical sense, the product of his teenage, alcoholic mother's one-night stand with a sailor . . . really. As a child, he was left unattended and lonely in the corners of bars until all hours of the night. Laurie grew up during the 1960s hippie era, experimenting with drugs and alcohol to help ease his pain. By age 17, he'd had a string of abusive step-fathers--seven in all--and lived in a dozen homes from New Jersey to Hawaii.
Though many would assume that the pastor of one of the largest churches in America who has drawn some 4 million people to evangelistic events worldwide has had a perfect life, the truth is far from ideal.
"...It's not hard for me to put myself in a nonbeliever's scuffed shoes. I've walked in them. I was full of skepticism and doubt; I thought I would never make it as a Christian--I did not see myself as the 'religious type.' Thankfully, God doesn't look for the 'religious type.' He looks for the 'sinner type.' I qualified" (Lost Boy, Page 142).
Despite--and perhaps because of--his scandalous beginnings, Laurie has become pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif.,--drawing more than 15,000 each Sunday--and founder of Harvest Crusades, innovative, high-tech, rock-and-roll evangelistic events that have packed stadiums and arenas around the country and abroad for the last 18 years.
"I strongly believe that we've got to communicate the gospel so that it can be understood by secular- minded people. Otherwise we just end up talking to ourselves." (Page 151)
Franklin Graham calls Lost Boy, available in bookstores now, "a picture of God's grace, protection and love." Packed with footage of Laurie's past and music from the era, a 90-minute film version called Lost Boy: The Documentary is available at www.harvest.org.
"If there's redemption for me and my situation, there is redemption for everyone," says Laurie.

Press Conference at McDonald's World Headquarters Tomorrow Supports National Boycott of Fast Food Giant for Promoting Homosexuality
Press Conference at McDonald's World Headquarters Tomorrow Supports National Boycott of Fast Food Giant for Promoting Homosexuality
NAPERVILLE, Illinois, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Americans For Truth has called a press conference tomorrow with other family groups from across the country at the world headquarters of McDonald's - to support the national boycott of the fast-food giant and highlight its record of promoting homosexual activism.
The press conference will be held at Wednesday, July 16 at 10:00 AM at the McDonald's restaurant adjacent to McDonald's world headquarters - at the corner of 22nd and Spring Streets in Oak Brook, Illinois. Participating groups joining Americans for Truth include:
American Family Association (AFA), which launched the McDonald's boycott
Liberty Counsel
Illinois Family Institute
AFA of Pennsylvania
Family Taxpayers Foundation
"AFA has focused its boycott on McDonald's $20,000 grant to a homosexual businessman's association -- calling for the company to return to neutrality in the culture wars," said Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans For Truth about Homosexuality (AFTAH). "We agree, but AFTAH will also be highlighting McDonald's daily promotion of unhealthy homosexual and transsexual lifestyles through corporate policies like funding unmarried 'domestic partner' (DP) benefits."
McDonald's scored an 85 percent rating on the homosexual lobby Human Rights Campaign's corporate scorecard -- indicating its support for DP benefits, policies that reward transsexual behavior, donations to homosexual activist groups, and failure to support pro-family groups (e.g., those defending traditional marriage).
"McDonald's has wisely chosen to alter its menu to promote healthy eating habits. Now it needs to examine its fiscal priorities and stop rewarding unhealthy lifestyles -- starting with an end to corporate subsidies for homosexual and transsexual behavior," LaBarbera said. "Homosexuality is unhealthy, especially for men: 71 percent of male HIV cases in 2005 involved men who have sex with men, according to the CDC. And syphilis and other STD's continue to afflict men practicing homosexuality at rates astronomically disproportionate to the rest of society."
Noting that a McDonald's recently suggested that pro- family critics of the corporation's homosexuality- friendly policies are guilty of "hate," LaBarbera said:
"Christians and religious people - and moral-minded Americans who are irreligious - cannot sit back while Corporate America turns them into second-class citizens by equating their traditional beliefs with 'hate.' Sadly, 'diversity' is becoming a corporate code-word for anti-Christian bigotry - forcing people of faith to imbibe politically correct ideologies that violate their beliefs."

Relationships Over Revenue -- How One Small Publishing House is Changing the Rules
Relationships Over Revenue -- How One Small Publishing House is Changing the Rules
"The relationships we have with others in the industry are more important to us than getting a bigger piece of the pie," says Michael Visentine, the new COO at NavPress.
COLORADO SPRINGS, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- It doesn't make sense. It goes against the grain. How can a publisher come from a position of giving first and still make ends meet? That's the million dollar question facing the team at NavPress every day. And they love it.
"At NavPress we are first and foremost Navigators," says Executive Publisher Mike Miller. "Because we are connected to a world-wide ministry we are able to do things differently than other publishers. We are here to advance the Kingdom of God. When we concentrate on building Kingdom-based relationships with like- minded ministries, we can trust God for the revenue," he affirms.
"We have realized that we don't have to do it all, be it all, or create it all, nor should we try," adds Michael Visentine, the new COO at NavPress. "No one can be the best at everything. When we take the focus off of trying to match what the other publishers are doing we are free do what we do best and be who we are, a mission-based servant publisher."
It starts with ministries that have the same vision coming together to enhance and support each other. This benefits not only those organizations directly involved, but also enriches the customer experience by connecting people to products and services that will help them grow spiritually. This approach opens up multiple offerings for customers, creating one unique place to find everything related to discipleship and spiritual growth.
"In any company there are three basic options when it comes to meeting customer needs," says Jessica Chappell, Director of Marketing and Ministry Partnerships at NavPress. "You can make it, buy it, or partner for it. Our partners are those ministries and organizations that can bring to our customers expertise in areas we cannot, and vice versa."
Therein lies the difference between the old paradigm and the new face of publishing at NavPress. But this is not a new idea. It is grounded in what the Bible says about the structure of the church. Each believer is a unique part of the Body of Christ. No one part is more important than the other and the Body of Christ is strongest when all parts work together for the common good.
"NavPress is no more or less important than any other publisher or ministry" continues Visentine, "but we each have a distinct role. The focus needs to shift from trying to find ways to out do each other to discovering how we can best serve each other. The relationships we have with others in the industry are more important to us than getting a bigger piece of the pie."
Michael Visentine came to NavPress from Sprint bringing a wealth of experience in finance and project management. After graduating from TCU in 1992 Visentine worked for American Express Financial Planning and then joined Sky Chefs and worked as an analyst for both the Labor Relations Dept and the Finance Dept. Michael has an MBA from Dallas Baptist University and a BBA in Finance from Texas Christian University.

New Christian Samurai Movie 'Good Soil' Available on DVD
New Christian Samurai Movie 'Good Soil' Available on DVD
MEDIA ADVISORY, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Christian samurai film 'Good Soil' is now available on DVD from Christian-Samurai.com and Amazon.com. The movie stars Shin Koyamada, whose film credits include 'The Last Samurai' and 'Wendy Wu, Homecoming Warrior.' It is written and directed by Craig Shimahara.
'Good Soil' is a short film that combines a retelling of the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-23) with a glimpse of the plight of the Japanese converts to Christianity under the shogunate.
Ships from Europe brought Christianity to the shores of Japan in 1549. For nearly 100 years the seeds of faith grew under the watchful gaze of the shogun. But the fear of foreign influence eventually gave rise to persecution. By 1624 Japanese Christians had only a few more years of peace.
Masuda Jinbei, a Japanese Christian of the samurai class, draws his strength from his faith, family, and fencing. Life is good, until the shogun decrees a brutal policy of religious cleansing. Now Jinbei must choose between his family and his faith.
The film is a must-see for Christians or seekers interested in the samurai, martial arts, and Japanese culture. Pastors and youth leaders will find it a valuable tool for presenting Biblical values in a setting of interest to today's popular culture.
The movie trailer can be found on YouTube, GodTube, and on Christian-Samurai.com.
The 'Good Soil' DVD is now available for purchase at Christian-Samurai.com and Amazon.com.

NAACP Challenged to Condemn the Racism of Planed Parenthood
NAACP Challenged to Condemn the Racism of Planed Parenthood
CINCINNATI, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following statement was made by Day Gardner, President of the Washington, DC based National Black Pro-Life Union, at a press conference on Monday, July 14, at the Duke Convention Center, in Cincinnati:
Good Afternoon. As a child I thought the NAACP to be a superhero organization; an organization that would fight racism right down to its very core.
A superhero organization wearing a mighty breastplate forged in polished steel, the words freedom and liberty emblazoned where the hearts of all black Americans pounded in rhythm to the spiritual "we shall overcome." A superhero organization whose cape was the American flag, whose powerful voice rang in tones of equality for all-- planting his feet firmly on the Bible--standing on the word of GOD Almighty.
I remember a time while growing up in the 1960s, my chest swelled with pride whenever I heard that the NAACP had become involved in righting some horrible wrong in an effort to stamp out racism.
Today, I am standing here shoulder to shoulder with my brothers and sisters in front of the Duke Convention Center where the NAACP is holding their 99th annual convention.
We are here to rally the NAACP--to make our voices heard as we shout in unison--all across this great nation that the struggle is not yet over! The evil hand of racism is still at work in this country and living in the bowels of Planned Parenthood.
After the Civil War, black men, women and children who were freed from the shackles of slavery were now breeding and migrating to cities and towns by the thousands. Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger was a slick racist. She initiated an evil plot to eliminate the Negro population called the Negro Project in 1939.
Planned Parenthood was founded in hate and racism and we know that still today. It has not strayed from its racist roots.
In the recent YouTube video* we hear the voices of the Planned Parenthood organization as employees gladly accept racist donations. We cringed when we heard the excitement of employees glad to accept donations specifically targeting "black children."
Planned Parenthood is a billion dollar baby killing machine that receives the bulk of its blood money from the vicious dismembering and killing of innocent children.
And one third of those billion dollars comes from you and me -- the tax payer. The question of the day is: Why are we forced to pay well over 300 MILLION dollars to an organization that is overtly racist and drenched in the blood of black folk?
We stand before you today with our eyes open to the truth. There are no scales on our eyes. We aren't Negroes anymore. We are not easily deceived as we were back in 1939. Our eyes are opened to the lies and the trickery of Planned Parenthood. Our eyes are opened to their racist agenda.
We are calling on the NAACP to stand boldly with us to defund Planned Parenthood, and in even lead the way in this, the greatest struggle for civil rights.

Audio Bible Distribution Website Goes Live
Audio Bible Distribution Website Goes Live
God's Word, Global Distribution Made Easy via Web
MEDIA ADVISORY, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Never in history has it been possible to send the Word of God around the world instantly and at no cost. But that's exactly what's happening at FaithComesByHearing.com.
This website, the virtual home of the world's foremost Audio Bible ministry, was recently updated and now serves as an online Audio Bible distribution center. Internet surfers, webmasters, bloggers and social network users have the ability to spread the Word of God in audio using popular sites such as MySpace, Facebook, Digg and Reddit.
"Our site now functions more as a ministry tool for online users who desire to spread God's Word digitally and less as an information platform," said Troy Carl, Faith Comes By Hearing's national director.
"The website offers many ways for people to get engaged in Scripture listening and, in turn, to reach the world with God's Word in audio," he added.
For those who want to use online technology for that purpose, Faith Comes By Hearing has developed an Audio Bible widget. Webmasters, bloggers and social network users can place this Audio Bible sampling software onto their websites, blogs or social network profiles. Visitors to those sites can then listen to a sample of any of the 296 Audio New Testaments in Faith Comes By Hearing's collection before choosing to download their own free Audio Bible. This widget is featured on the new "Link to Us" page, which also contains "cut and paste" links, website code, banners, graphics and logos.
The "ShareThis" link allows users to post their favorite Faith Comes By Hearing stories on their MySpace, Facebook and Twitter profiles, as well as share content through emails, text messages and AOL Instant Messenger.
Carl said visitors can still download free Audio Bibles, subscribe to Audio Bible podcasts and listen to stirring stories and testimonies about God's Word at work.
Also, with the new "Subscribe To" feature, users can stay informed by subscribing to monthly ministry emails that deliver inspiring testimonies, worldwide prayer needs and the latest ministry news to their email address.
FaithComesByHearing.com also underwent a few cosmetic changes, such as a revamped visual design, an interactive multimedia Flash player and simpler navigation.
"We wanted to increase and simplify users' abilities to engage in the Word of God and share it with their online communities. All these enhancements make FaithComesByHearing.com more interactive and navigable," said Carl. "This upgrade is part of the overall mission of this ministry to cover the earth with God's Word. That world also includes the online community."

Mayor Dubs July in Honor of the Christian Grandparenting Network
Mayor Dubs July in Honor of the Christian Grandparenting Network
COLORADO SPRINGS, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Mayor Lionel Rivera of Colorado Springs declared July as Christian Grandparenting Network Appreciation Month in honor of the organization's commitment to serve the military children of Colorado Springs.
"The Christian Grandparenting Network (CGN) has spent the last six years developing programs catered to building relationships between grandparent and grandchild," said Cavin Harper, Executive Director of CGN. "This year, with numbers rising of children whose parents are continuing to serve in Iraq we saw the great need to focus on military children and connect them to their grandparents for a support system."
CGN began to meet this need through their first Military Kids GrandCamp (MKGC) last month. MKGC was a week-long residential camp held June 16-20 in Florissant and designed specifically for grandparents and their grandchildren who have a parent deployed to Iraq or another part of the world.
"We exist to encourage children like 8-year old Ashley," said Harper. Ashley's father was killed during the Baghdad invasion and now, several years later, her stepfather is serving his third tour in Iraq and won't return until February.
Thousands of children see both parents deployed at the same time and face the adjustment and toil of living with relatives or substitute parents before their 13th birthday. According to Research Magazine in 2006, over 470,000 children with deployed parents are age 1 and under. Over 400,000 are between age 6 and 11. And over 300,000 are between ages 12 and 18.
According to the Ft. Carson Regional Growth Plan, Colorado Springs and Ft. Carson are doing all they can to prepare for the 33,800 new military residents expected to arrive by 2011.
"I think it takes more than city planning to support children as they face transition, relocation and the absence of a parent or two," said Harper. "You need to hear the stories of kids like Ashley to see there's just not enough being done. CGN has recognized the needs of military children and we're striving to ease the pain they face, show them love, and give them hope. But we can't do it alone."
Harper invites Colorado Springs residents to sign a petition asking the Pike's Peak Area Council of Governments to include a plan supporting military children during the Ft. Carson expansion initiative. To sign, visit www.christiangrandparenting.net.

COLORADO SPRINGS, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Mayor Lionel Rivera of Colorado Springs declared July as Christian Grandparenting Network Appreciation Month in honor of the organization's commitment to serve the military children of Colorado Springs.

We All Need a Little Help: An Escalating Crisis
We All Need a Little Help: An Escalating Crisis
Shelter Founder and CEO Reveals Why He Considered Quitting Ministry: He Also Needed a Little Help
OPINION, July 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following is submitted by Jeremy Reynalds, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of Joy Junction, New Mexico's largest homeless shelter:
It's hard for me to believe that I am now fifty years old and celebrating more than a quarter century of continuous ministry to New Mexico's homeless population.
I have first-hand knowledge of what being homeless is like because I was once homeless myself. I remember what it was like to crawl into an open storage shed for the night. I remember how good a bologna sandwich can taste when you're famished. I remember how cold my thumb got from sticking it out in the freezing rain, trying to get someone to pick me up so I could travel the five miles--which might as well have been 500 miles--to a church that had offered to let me sleep on the floor for the night.
Some time after those experiences, which I now can see were God's preparation for my calling, I began the Albuquerque-based Joy Junction in 1986. Prior to that, I worked with the homeless in Santa Fe from 1982 through 1986.
It's been twenty-two years . . . and yet it seems like a short time ago that I came up the driveway of our 52- acre property wanting to reach out to homeless families with the love of Jesus Christ. The vision I had was for a refuge where the entire family unit could stay together at one of the most difficult times in their lives, a place where husbands and wives could offer support for one another. I also hoped that their children, while attending schools in the area, could live in as normal a situation as possible. I had no idea what adventures, struggles and trials would lie ahead or that there would be an increasing need for such a haven.
Tragically, more than twenty years later, there appear to be few faith-based homeless shelters around America that are devoted to offering assistance to the entire family in one place.
Perhaps the lack of facilities or resources is due to at least in part to the inherent difficulty of working with family units. Some of the problems that surface with families just don't arrive when you're dealing with individuals such as single men or women. The issues are more multilayered with families, but the need is just as great. My prayer is that the model and standards of care and assistance would adjust to the realities.
Meanwhile, I am disturbed at the increasing numbers of people whose circumstances force them to call Joy Junction home. The escalating number of homeless people is at crisis level in Albuquerque, and many in the community don't seem to realize the seriousness of the situation. Five years ago, Joy Junction was feeding, sheltering and helping in a myriad of other ways about 150 people each night. Now we regularly help more than 300 people nightly, and that number shows no sign of diminishing.
With those numbers in mind, we have a vision for many more services to our residents. Among other things, we would like to start an onsite Christian school, provide an employment service and job counseling, offer GED training, and perhaps open a school of cosmetology. We would also like to renovate our onsite chapel and spruce up the other buildings and grounds.
Perhaps you're asking yourself, "Why? Isn't everything you've talked about just going to bring an influx of homeless people to Joy Junction?" (and other shelters nationwide).
My answer is this: No, because no one wants to be homeless. But as the costs of fuel, basic utilities, healthcare, and food continue to rise, more and more of us are being thrust into poverty and living on the brink of homelessness. The possibility becomes a probability--and then turns into a reality, and it is happening more and more often. What the resources I have talked about earlier will help us do is to cope more effectively with the influx of people whom we have every reason to expect will keep coming.
Maybe you're saying, "Well, I wouldn't ever get in that situation and if I did happen to come even close, I'd be out there pounding the pavements and taking care of my family's needs."
All right. But let's say you couldn't, for whatever the reason. Maybe the day you never thought would come actually has come. You awoke one morning feeling there was a heavy black cloud hanging over your head, and when you attempted to put your feet on the ground it was as if you were moving through a thick fog. You stepped unwillingly into the darkness of depression and you couldn't find your way out. As a result, you didn't go to work and you lost your job. Eventually you lost your house. You may have started drinking and perhaps ended up on the streets of Albuquerque or the city you live in.
If these events happened in Albuquerque, there's a good chance you may have been directed to Joy Junction, where we would do our best to help you in any way we could or direct you to other organizations that would more directly address your needs. As you saw earlier, we've been doing this for more than two decades. Why? Because we're increasingly convinced that everyone needs a little help sometimes.
Maybe your issue is not homelessness--it could be something else. No one, me included, can expect to walk through life without stumbling on a pothole or two on the road, and we all need help sometimes in getting back up. The upcoming book from which this article is excerpted, "We All Need a Little Help," tells of how some fell, but it also tells of how someone helped them to walk again--maybe with scars, but with renewed strength through God's grace. One of those people was me, and I'm here to affirm God's amazing grace in rough circumstances.
From Despair to Hope
For many years, my marriage had been difficult, to say the least.
There were routine arguments and strained communication resulting from my long working hours and the lack of a shared vision. The worse the situation became at home, the more I wanted to retreat into the peace and security of my Joy Junction office and school. However, the more I retreated, the more tense things became at home.
In addition, I wasn't making a normal commute to school. Enrolled in a Ph.D. program at Biola University, I had to fly to Los Angeles for class work every week for three long years. When I was home, I was always preoccupied in keeping up with the expanding amount of reading I had to do. For the three months before I took my comprehensive exams in June 2002 I read in bed, I read in the office, I read on the plane, and I read in the gym. Wherever I was, I read. However, even though the reading was intense, I was feeling a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment from both my academic studies and the shelter--which was more than I could say for my marriage.
While my wife and I had long discussions about what, if anything, was left of the future of our relationship, the discussions never resolved anything and always ended in arguments. I felt emotionally drained. I still don't really know how my wife felt because we never actually communicated. We just fought.
The situation worsened, and in late 2004 I ended up moving out of the ministry-provided house where I had been living with her and the boys since the late 1980's. I began living in another very modest residence located on our 52-acre property--so modest, in fact, that it did not have a working stove or microwave. I kept a small number of close friends and colleagues apprised of my situation, though in retrospect I realize that they did not know how to help me. I do not blame them for what seemed at the time like a lack of support. I have since come to understand that people are very nervous and reticent about what to do with someone who is separated or on the brink of a divorce.
While my new living arrangements were lonely, they were at least peaceful. I threw myself wholeheartedly into Joy Junction and my writing projects--primarily my Ph.D. dissertation and a book that was never published but which I was working on that dealt with research I had been undertaking on the use of the Internet by radical Muslims.
I buried myself in my office. What I didn't know back then was that although I was going through all of the motions of running the shelter, issuing news releases and trying to make sure that the money kept coming in, something tragic had happened: I had lost my heart for what I was doing. I had emotionally shut down. I considered resigning, but kept my increasingly confused thoughts to myself. Even in my depleted and depressed emotional state, I knew that a lot of people were depending on Joy Junction.
Life went on like that until one day in April 2005, when a former staff member asked me if I would take part in a job interview with him for a new office manager. While I agreed to do so, my thoughts weren't particularly in it--we had gone though a stream of office personnel for one reason or another in the preceding few months. I really just wanted to get back to my office, where I could once again emotionally and physically retreat. That was when I first met Roseann Vona Page.
She quickly demonstrated phenomenal skills and an ability to listen and bond with those in need. As a result, I soon promoted her to be my assistant and then chief administrative officer for the shelter. During those difficult months that followed, Roseann became both a trusted coworker and a friend. She was a wonderful listener, allowing me to express my pent-up need to communicate with someone. She graciously offered ongoing encouragement when I was depressed and on the brink of becoming unglued.
Roseann's willingness to stand by me in my deeply troubled emotional condition provides an example of what can happen when someone is willing to take a risk and get involved. I had a small circle of friends who knew about my wife's and my separation and impending divorce, but many of them didn't seem to know what to say to me or how to act around me. I felt they began to emotionally shy away from me. That was not the case with Roseann. Her friendship probably saved my sanity.
Her encouragement also provided the support I needed to stay at Joy Junction. The Lord's prompting through Roseann and many of our residents helped awaken me to the needs of the hundreds of people and scores of families pouring through the ministry. I realized that the Lord's calling on my life hadn't changed. However, I had changed. I was in a new position to appreciate the privilege and importance of such a calling.
Over the next few months my spirit woke up again, and I became completely aware of the needs of the brokenhearted people with whom the Lord surrounded me. Roseann, the rest of the staff, and I focused daily on doing everything we could to provide for them.
It is to Roseann that I owe the encouragement and inspiration for my upcoming book and its title. We all need a little help, me included. I thank God for Roseann and others like her. They are the living stones that make up the kingdom of heaven.

Odenheimer 'Voluntarily' Quits Tiller
Odenheimer 'Voluntarily' Quits Tiller
The Wichita Clinic issues press release confirming two doctors have agreed to discontinue providing signatures for Tiller's late-term abortions
WICHITA, Kansas, July 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- Less than eight hours after Operation Rescue released his name to the public, Burt Odenheimer and another physician have agreed to no longer provide the second opinion for Tiller's late- term abortion patients starting immediately.
A press release from the Wichita Clinic, where both Odenheimer and the other doctor had been secretly seeing Tiller's patients, confirmed that until this morning, the Clinic had no knowledge that they were doing so. It also confirmed that both Odenheimer and the other physician had been providing the second opinions and that both agreed to stop.
"We have the utmost respect for the Wichita Clinic and the way they have handled this situation. As soon as they became aware that their clinic was being secretly used to enable late abortions, they took care of it immediately," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We wish to publicly thank them for their quick action, and commitment to life-affirming medicine."
"We understand that many people communicated with the Wichita Clinic this morning, expressing their dismay with the Clinic's association with Tiller. We want to thank each and every one of them who took the time to voice their concern," said Newman. "This incident underscores the fact that the community does not support Tiller's abortion business, and take it very seriously when others engage in actions that help him continue take the innocent lives of the pre-born. It also shows to what lengths Tiller and his cohorts will go to in order to hide the truth about what they are doing."
OR discovered Odenheimer was collaborating with Tiller and released the information as part of a "second phase" of efforts to expose Tiller after the citizen-called grand jury dismissed without indictments earlier this month. Newman announced the plan at a leadership meeting held last week, where this and other strategies were discussed.
Operation Rescue plans to make further announcements about other Tiller abortion collaborators later this week.

IRD Applauds Court Order Seeking Arrest of Sudanese President Bashir
IRD Applauds Court Order Seeking Arrest of Sudanese President Bashir
WASHINGTON, July 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today the International Criminal Court's (ICC) prosecutor, Luis Moreno- Ocampo, charged Sudan's president with plotting genocide in Darfur. The President, National Islamic Front Leader Omar Hassan al-Bashir, is directly blamed for the killing of thousands of people and the flight of millions of refugees.
Moreno-Ocampo said on top of the thousands killed by Sudan's armed forces and the militia they support, 2.5 million others were subjected to a campaign of "rape, hunger and fear" in refugee camps where he said genocide continued "under our eyes."
"The decision to start the genocide was taken by Bashir personally," he told a news conference reported on by Reuters. "Bashir is executing this genocide without gas chambers, without bullets, without machetes. It is genocide by attrition."
IRD Director of Religious Liberty Programs Faith J.H. McDonnell commented,
"We are grateful for Luis Moreno-Ocampo's courage and moral clarity. The world has treated the regime in Khartoum and the victims of its genocidal jihad with moral equivalence for too long. Even advocates for Darfur have at times been nebulous about the source of genocide. At last the ICC's Chief Prosecutor has, in no uncertain terms, laid the blame at the feet where it belongs.
"Moreno-Ocampo has made a very clear case, charging that Bashir 'masterminded and implemented a plan to destroy the three main ethnic groups in Darfur, the Fur, the Masalit, and the Zaghawa.'
"We wish that Bashir would be held responsible for the (undeclared) genocide perpetrated in Southern Sudan and the Nuba Mountain region, as well. If Moreno-Ocampo had been investigating genocide and crimes against humanity in that region during the years in which over two million people were killed and over five million displaced, he would have reached similar conclusions. Even now, Bashir's regime targets the Beja in eastern Sudan and the Nubians in the north.
"When a thug regime gets away with one genocide, what is to stop the regime from continuing the pattern? We hope that being called out before the nations of the world by the ICC will help to put an end to Bashir's decades of atrocities. Indictment will also make it perfectly clear to the nations of the EU and others that they are doing business with a war criminal."

Bishop Gene Robinson Swoons for Cameras Outside Lambeth
Bishop Gene Robinson Swoons for Cameras Outside Lambeth
"We wish Robinson the best as he seeks to maintain a modest profile by palling around with British celebrities and preaching at Anglican churches in spite of Dr. Williams request that he refrain." -- IRD President James W. Tonkowich
WASHINGTON, July 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson, fresh from a recently-celebrated same-sex union in his home diocese of New Hampshire, has descended upon Britain for the upcoming Lambeth Conference.
Due to the controversy over his consecration, Robinson was one of a handful of bishops not invited to the conference convened by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams. Despite this, Robinson has decided to make appearances on the periphery of events and provide what he called a "constant and friendly" reminder of gays in the church.
Taking place every ten years, Lambeth brings together hundreds of bishops from around the Anglican Communion convened by the Archbishop of Canterbury for discussion and common worship. The Associated Press is reporting that more than 200 conservative bishops are boycotting Lambeth because Episcopal leaders who consecrated Robinson will be there.
IRD President Rev. Dr. James W. Tonkowich commented,
"Robinson's presence rather than providing the healing balm that the strife-torn Anglican Communion needs is adding to the instability.
"Robinson's civil union was provocative in its pre- conference timing and his publicity-driven schedule is driving attention towards him and away from the work of the Church.

Remarks by President Bush on the 10th Anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act
Remarks by President Bush on the 10th Anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act
WASHINGTON, July 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following text is of remarks by President Bush on the 10th anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act:
Roosevelt Room
11:51 A.M. EDT
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all, please be seated. Welcome. I want to welcome Congressman Wolf, Congressman Smith, Congressman Franks, former Senator Nickles; thank you all for coming. I'm so honored that you've come to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act.
This legislation that we commemorate today builds on a tradition that defined our nation. After all, when the Founding Fathers adopted the Bill of Rights, the very first liberty they enshrined was the freedom of religion. They recognized that the most basic freedom a man can have is the right to worship his own God as he sees fit. Today we are blessed to live in a country where that freedom is respected.
In too many countries, expressions of freedom were silenced by tyranny, intolerance and oppression. So a decade ago, members of Congress -- I suspect some of the members here -- and religious leaders and human rights activists came together to advance religious freedom around the globe. The result of their work was the International Religious Freedom Act. The bill created vital diplomatic tools to help our government to promote religious liberty abroad. The Act established an ambassador-at-large position to ensure that religious liberty remains a priority of every administration -- and I want to thank our current Ambassador, John Hanford, for joining us today. And thank you for taking on this important job.
The Act established the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom to monitor the state of religious liberty worldwide. The Act requires annual reporting on the state of religious freedom in every nation, to help identify the most egregious offenders. The Act authorizes sanctions against regimes.
In all these ways, the Act has placed religious liberty where it belongs -- at the center of U.S. foreign policy.
We've seen some hopeful progress during the last couple of years. We've seen in Turkmenistan, where the nation's chief mufti had been ousted and imprisoned for refusing to teach state propaganda as a sacred religious text. Through efforts authorized by the International Religious Freedom Act, the United States pressed for the mufti's release. In 2007, mufti Ibadullah pardoned and freed -- he has since become an advisor to Turkmenistan's Council on Religious Affairs.
We've seen some progress in Vietnam. The United States used the tools of this Act to press for the release of dozens of religious prisoners -- all of whom have been freed. Vietnam's government has reopened many of the churches it had shut down. And most religious groups report a decrease in the government's oppression of believers. This Act has encouraged Vietnam to take some promising first steps toward religious liberty -- and we're going to continue to work toward the day when all Vietnamese are free to worship as they so desire.
The 10-year anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act is also an occasion to remember the many people who have yet to secure this precious liberty. Our thoughts turn especially to those living in the countries where religious freedom is of particular concern. Some of these nations have taken steps toward reform. Others haven't. Today we urge the leaders of all these countries to immediately end their abuses of religious freedom. And we urge these leaders to respect the rights of those who seek only to worship their God as they see fit.
Today, we remember those seeking religious freedom in Iran, where the regime's anti-Semitism has provoked global outrage. We remember those seeking religious freedom in Eritrea, where approximately 3,000 religious prisoners languish in the nation's jails. We remember those seeking religious freedom in Sudan, where police have used tear gas to attack a Christian church, and where Christian leaders who met with a Muslim woman wanting to convert were beaten and detained.
We remember those seeking religious freedom in North Korea, where those caught practicing faiths other than the state ideology are imprisoned, and people found with Bibles can be executed. We remember those seeking religious freedom in Burma - - especially the nation's Buddhist monks, who have endured brutal raids on their monasteries, and suffered tear gas attacks and gunfire during peaceful protests.
We remember those seeking religious freedom in Uzbekistan, where in the past members of religious minorities have been beaten and jailed -- yet where recent agreements give us hope that these abuses will not be repeated in the future.
We remember those seeking religious freedom in Saudi Arabia, where the religious police continue to harass non-Muslims -- yet where we also believe reforms pledged by King Abdullah can bring real change. We remember those seeking religious freedom in China, and we honor those who press for their liberties -- people like Uighur Muslims. I had the honor of meeting Rebiya Kadeer. I've also had the honor of meeting those who attend underground churches in China. And we also honor the courage of the Dalai Lama, and the Buddhists in Tibet.
And you know, last month here at the White House I met with a Chinese dissident named Li Baiguang. He's a lawyer who worked on human rights cases; he's a "house church" Protestant. For his work, he's been repeatedly jailed and attacked. A few weeks ago, he was scheduled to meet with members of Congress. State authorities blocked the meeting and detained Li on the outskirts of Beijing. This determined man has pledged: "I'll continue to ... seek justice for victims of rights abuses, and promote the rule of law in China." And my message to President Hu Jintao, when I last met him, was this: So long as there are those who want to fight for their liberty, the United States stands with them.
Whenever and wherever I meet leaders, I'm going to constantly remind them that they ought to welcome religion in their society, not fear it. I'll remind them someone pledged to love a neighbor like they'd like to be loved themselves is someone who will add to their society in constructive and peaceful ways.
I'm met by men and women who are working for religious freedom around the globe, people like Li. And when I do I'm always impressed by their courage. I've attended worship services from Hanoi to Beijing. And when I speak to world leaders, I remind them -- leaders in those countries, that the worship services are a necessary part of developing a society for which they can be proud.
And so as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act, we pray that all those who seek their God will be able to do so free of oppression and fear.
I want to thank you all for your good work, and I ask for the good Lord to continue to bless our country. Thank you for your time. (Applause.)
