ELCA's Finest- Dr. Tiller Faces Judgment
MEDIA ADVISORY, July 31 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Sin Boldly" is the oft-repeated mantra in Evangelical Lutheran Church of America seminaries and clergy meetings across the country.(1) The phrase was taken out of context from the writings of Martin Luther the Reformer. In the ELCA and other radically liberal denominations it has come to mean that it is okay to live a life of sin, even good to do so if it is done with the understanding that your baptism in Jesus absolves you unconditionally. This new "theology" of sin of course is not Christian at all. It is based in gnostic and hedonist schools of thought- schools of thought that were always hostile towards God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
And this is the theology that motivates Dr. Tiller's ELCA congregation, Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita, to embrace him without reserve.
He may be on the right side of hedonism, but the partial birth abortion specialist Dr. Tiller is on the wrong side of Scripture and- as a judge made clear this week- on the wrong side of the law in Kansas. Tiller must face judgment.
This unfolding saga really says something about the spiritual bankruptcy and impotence of the old mainline church. There was a time in America when the mainline was the voice of moral conscience for the nation. Today, it takes a judge in a secular court to uphold the law and fabric of society while churches like the ELCA and the Episcopal Church have become blatantly ungodly.(2, 3) Dr. Tiller continues, and will always continue, receiving the Lord's Supper at his ELCA church.
But really, who would want to share a pew with Dr. Tiller or another well known ELCA member and former congregational president from Kansas- BTK Killer Dennis Rader?
It is no surprise then that a mass exodus of Christians has been fleeing these denominations for their very lives, or that the average member's age of those churches is about 54.(4) Sad statistics for the bishops in their opulent headquarters and on their Lear Jets as they see less and less in their offering plates on Sunday morning, but great news for the people of God who long for a second reformation of His Church in America.
