Poetry: A Classic and Effective Approach to Combating Stress
ENUMCLAW, Wash., June 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- Growing up can be stressful. The teen years, in particular, are renowned for their socially and physically imposed triggers for anxiety. Studies conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health, reveal a possible link between puberty and a heightened sensitivity to stress.
Furthers studies point to the therapeutic significance of working through all that stress through journaling, and particularly through poetry. Author Alyssa Comunale has used this method for alleviating stress for several years. She says of her new book, "Knelt Down:"
"Certain poems were written during my college years, which were a time of definite struggle in my life. I just had to get my thoughts and prayers out on paper."
A collection of fresh and honest Christian poetry, "Knelt Down: Poems in Testimony" navigates through a range of themes and playfully interjects a balanced modicum of inspiration, heartbreak, emotional struggle, and comic relief.
Broken into three poignant sections, "Knelt Down" covers three specific periods in the author's life:
High School - Amazed by the Possibilities
College Years - Passion is One Notch Below Insanity
Life as a Missionary - Nothing Missing, Nothing Broken
"Poetry was used throughout the Bible from the beginning and that is one of the reasons I love it so much. If I had to pick, I'd say that Moses is my favorite poet along with some of the other prophets in the Old Testament."
Comunale's book title is taken from one particular poem that expresses how to press into a simple, yet deeper life of love, service, and worship of the Lord, just as He "knelt down" to serve and save sinful man.
Alyssa Comunale resides in Kunkletown, Pennsylvania where she and her family live in the Pocono Mountains. Affiliated with Youth With a Mission, her current plan is to study Spanish in Coast Rica before continuing missions work among Spanish speaking people. For fun, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her family, scrapbooking, reading, fishing, and helping with her church.
