Obama Candidacy Uncovering True Colors of the Religious Left and Right

FLOWER MOUND, Texas, July 25 /Christian Newswire/ -- Since the inception of the Moral Majority, and their save America proclamation during the 1980s, there are those who have questioned the true intent of the Religious-right. Similarly, suspicions have loomed over urban ministers and their use of Black Theology as a guise for demagoguery and racial hatemongering. These two polar opposites have been uncovered completely by the candidacy of Barak Obama. This, according to Dr. Steven B. DavidSon, the nation's leading Christ- based Counselor and Christian educator. Generally, they are racially and political opposites, but DavidSon views these as 'strangely akin.'

"It has always been my suspicion that these groups' preeminent concern was their racial or political idolatry. Facts indicate that their faith is merely an instrument and cover for their principal passions." What was once held as opinion is obvious according to DavidSon. "Obama's candidacy has completely uncovered their loyalties. I believe most civil rights advocates admit, they did not think they would see the day of a legitimate African-American candidate for president. You would think the Jeremiah Wright and Jesse Jackson-types would be deeply committed. However, what is obvious is that their turf has been threatened. So, there has not been the sacrificial support one would expect. Their self-aggrandizement and demeaning innuendo has undermined the candidate's campaign. DavidSon's point continues with the religious-right. "Obama is a presidential candidate who is thoroughly comfortable with his faith, and readily proclaims Jesus Christ as personal savior. Clearly, Obama would be embraced by the religious right!" However, according to DavidSon this is not the case. "The characterization of his Biblical perspective as 'fruitcake interpretation' represents the nightmare Obama presents for the religious-right. Whether it is the religious-left or religious-right, Obama's relationship to Jesus Christ--in their view-- must be predicated on his convictions concerning race, abortion, and homosexuality. Given any difference on these 'litmus' topics he deserves nothing less than emasculation, or he's a fruitcake by reference."

DavidSon reveals Dobson's hypocritical dilemma. "Consider Dobson's profession, psychologist. The psychological talk-therapies were born out of atheism. Are we to view him as less than a believer in the manner he does Obama? Blasting governing officials is completely opposite of the principles in the New Testament letters written under circumstances of oppression and martyrdom. Clearly, he has a right to stand for the nation he loves supremely. And we have a right to confront him and others to stop using our faith as a political battle-ax. We view it as a disgrace to the principles of the Savior we love preeminently. It's an amazing mentality that proclaims Jesus' coming and a new heaven and earth, but appears surprised and desperate concerning the spiritual collapse of America as an institution."

According to DavidSon, most major cities in urban America have a Jeremiah Wright. "It is unfortunate. Black Theology and the 'social' gospel are adaptations of a spiritual message draped in unending black issues. Some have commendable social programs. But when you evaluate their principal call to develop believers in Jesus Christ, don't be surprised if many of them lack program quality. Obama is a product of this type of setting. Nevertheless, Obama is absolutely on-point with Jesus Christ as the principal matter, and he is comfortable expressing the level of his Christian commitment. Can 'Wrights' or 'Dobsonites' say the same about any of their preferred candidates of the past or future? Obama's candidacy has uncovered the true colors of the religious left-and- right. And as Paul admonished Timothy, we make public example of false concepts.
