The Layman to Cover the PCUSA General Assembly

The Layman to Cover the PCUSA General Assembly

LENOIR, NC., June 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- As the 218th General Assembly convenes in California this week, The Layman, the print and web publications of the Presbyterian Lay Committee, will be well-represented to cover the event. Running from June 21st through June 28th, the biennial assembly will address a number of controversial issues. Not the least of those issues is the overture calling for an amendment to the denomination's constitution sanctioning the marriage of same-sex couples. In light of the recent California court decision legalizing such marriages, this will no doubt be the issue to watch in San Jose.

The Presbyterian Lay Committee exists to provide reliable information and resources concerning significant issues confronting the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Church Universal, thereby equipping and empowering faithful congregations and leaders to fulfill the Great Commission. According to executive director, Charles F. Burge, "the Presbyterian Lay Committee stands for the preservation and advancement of Biblical authority, the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and the Gospel of the Reformation. In full cooperation with the Holy Spirit, we aim to inform and equip His saints for the work of ministry." You can expect up-to-date coverage of the discussions and decisions made in California on our website, at www.layman.org.

The committee has announced that Burge and Parker T. Williamson, editor emeritus of The Layman, will be available for interviews both on-site and by phone. For more information, please contact John Howard, COO. Office phone: (828) 758-8716; Cell: (828) 292-3046.
