Abunga.com Gives Donations to Consumer-Selected Nonprofits
Family-Friendly Bookstore Allocates Funds Early Due to Difficult Economy
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., October 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- Abunga.com, a family-friendly online bookstore which donates 5 percent of all net purchases to a consumer-selected nonprofit organization, is distributing its year-end charitable donations to chosen organizations early to help during the current difficult economy.
Sixty-five Favored Abunga Nonprofits (FANs) will receive a monetary donation from Abunga.com on behalf of the bookstore's consumers. Those benefitting include national nonprofit organizations such as Save Darfur Coalition, Compassion International, The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Focus on the Family, March of Dimes and YoungLife, as well as several local organizations such as Knox Area Rescue Mission, Pocono Community Church in Pocono Summit, Penn., Faith Promise Church in Knoxville, Tenn., and East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
"Due to the economy, people are cutting back in all areas of their lives including their charitable giving," said Abunga.com Chairman Lee Martin. "By simply offering this payout a little early this year, we hope it will help those in need during this difficult time."
A recent Wilson Research Strategies/Dunham+Company poll of Christian adults in America found that nearly 50 percent of these have reduced their giving to charity as a result of the current economic situation. Abunga.com created the FAN program to offer a convenient way for consumers to continue their giving through their every day book purchases.
Though the FAN program has been in place since Abunga.com was founded in late 2007, the Web retailer just added several thousand FANs in early August to expand the organization choices for consumers to more than 8,000 different types of nonprofits. Currently, a variety of Christian schools, churches, national ministries and humanitarian organizations are included in the FAN list.
Distribution of the FAN funds by Abunga.com are typically given out each January. Checks for this early distribution, which include the first, second and third quarter of 2008, will be mailed Oct. 28. Abunga.com will allocate the fourth-quarter 2008 donations with the 2009 funds.
"Whether consumers want their 5 percent to go to their local church or a nationally-recognized organization, Abunga.com will give to the organization they choose if it is on our FAN list," Martin said. "This is just one more way that Abunga.com can support worthy organizations which are standing for family-friendly causes."
The Web-based bookstore is continually expanding its FAN list by allowing consumers to nominate their favorite nonprofits by filling out a simple online form. Abunga.com reviews all submissions to ensure each organization upholds the ethical, moral and spiritual principles that coincide with Abunga.com's positive mission of family- friendliness.
