New Poll: Faith and Politics of Young Adults in the 2008 Election

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Results of a new poll providing a groundbreaking look at the faith and political views of young people in the 2008 election cycle will be released in an 11:30 a.m. EDT conference call for journalists on Wednesday, October 8, 2008. Sponsored by Faith in Public Life and conducted by Public Religion Research, the Faith and American Politics Survey is a large national survey with an unprecedented over sample of Americans ages 18- 34. The poll's results are analyzed in a new report, "The Young and the Faithful," which includes portraits of the political views and issue priorities of two important groups: young Catholics and Evangelicals.

The results of the survey are based on telephone interviews with a representative sample of 2,000 American adults and a large over sample of younger adults (18-34). The young adult sample size was 1,250 and included both land line and cell phone interviews. The survey was conducted under the supervision of Opinion Access Corp August 28 - September 19, 2008.

Topics explored in the report include the so-called "god gap"; views of candidate "friendliness" to religion; candidate preference of different religious groups, as well as first-time voters; opinions on abortion, including the potential for common ground; views on same-sex marriage, employment non-discrimination and religious liberty; opinions on the role and size of government; attitudes on the economy, immigration, the environment, and torture; and issue priorities when it comes to voting.
