Coastguard tug on way to broken down ship

Coastguard tug on way to broken down ship

LONDON. April 1, 2008/3mnewswire.org/-- The Coastguard tug 'Anglian Prince' is on its way to a Latvian registered cargo vessel which has broken down 6 nautical miles north east of Cape Wrath.

The 2026 grt, "Sava Ocean", which has seven people on board, was spotted by Stornoway Coastguard on its AIS (Automatic Identification System) which shows vessels over a certain size and their progress. Aberdeen Coastguard called the ship and it confirmed that it had broken down and needed assistance.

George Downie, Watch Manager for Aberdeen Coastguard says:

"The vessel was on its way from Wismar in Germany to Runcorn when it
started to develop engine problems. Our colleagues in Stornoway noticed that it was not making progress at 4.40pm this afternoon. We then called her and they confirmed that the ship had broken down.

We are now in discussion with the owners of the vessel, and our tug is on its way to the scene with an expected arrival time of around 10.30 pm. The ship's crew are continuing to work on the engine in the hope that they may be able to re-start it. However, the Coastguard tug will soon be in the area to monitor the situation for us in case they can't"

The weather on scene for this operation is good with south westerly
force 4 winds.
