Heavenly Poems

Heavenly Poems

NORTH LAS VEGAS, April 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- In dark times, many turn to a higher power for strength and guidance, while others shoulder their pain alone. The life of poet Maria Santos Borja has been etched with pain and suffering, but rather than dwelling on difficulties, she chooses to praise her many blessings. Her new poetry collection, Angels Are My Best Friends: They Can Be Yours Too (published by AuthorHouse) opens readers' minds and hearts to spiritual possibilities so that they may know the comfort Borja has found.

Borja was born with cerebral palsy and suffered an accident later in life that confined her to a wheelchair. Her disabilities became her main motivation for writing this book. Typing the entire manuscript with three fingers, this self-described "amazing poet in a wheelchair" also painstakingly illustrated the book.

"I wanted to fulfill everything in life that was beyond human imagination, medical ability and explanation," says Borja. "This book contains heavenly messages and inspiration using my precious angel friends as a strong threshold to get inspirational words and messages across to God's most loving children-- words that come from the deepest part of my inner soul, heart and mind."

The book consists of two parts. The main focus is poetry with an angelic theme. Borja also includes autobiographical writings that reveal the challenges she has faced and her many encounters with angels and with God.

The following excerpt is from Borja's poem, "Angels Take Me Home to Where My Mommy Is Way Up in the Sky (A Little Boy's Prayer)", and serves as an example of Borja's style.

Dear God, now I lay myself down to sleep; hungry, dirty, angry and confused, while my Daddy goes out to the bar drinking all night.

He left me here all alone, no one to talk to, Tuck me into my bed or kiss me good night.

About the Author: Born with cerebral palsy, Borja overcame numerous physical limitations and dedicated her life to serving those less fortunate. In 1991, she suffered another devastating blow. While cooking for people in need, Borja slipped and fell. Her injuries left her confined to a wheelchair with little movement below the neck. Angels Are My Best Friends: They Can Be Yours Too is her first book.
