'The Tear Catcher'
Experiencing God's Presence in the Midst of Suffering
ENUMCLAW, Wash., July 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- When 39-year-old Bruce MacKenzie was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, he responded, "I win either way. I win if God heals me on this earth and I can stay a while longer, and I win if God calls me home to heaven. But, either way, I win."
Eleven months later, God did call Bruce home to heaven. In the aftermath of Bruce's death, his wife of 17 years adjusted to her new role as a single parent to their two children, then ages 9 and 12.
Lynn MacKenzie's personal experience narrative, "The Tear Catcher", relates how God caught her tears and opened her heart to experiencing His unconditional love.
"'The Tear Catcher' is more than a chronicle of the cancer journey I went through with my husband," explains MacKenzie. "It is a book about hope--about seeing God in the visible as well as the invisible."
Bruce's cancer and subsequent death showed them God's multifaceted character, says MacKenzie. "We learned to submit, which ultimately led to surrender. I discovered how God can take the nothingness of our lives and turn it into something beautiful."
"God doesn't promise we won't have tears, but He does promise to be there to catch them," she adds. MacKenzie says she's learned to "live each day as if it's my last, and at the end of the day, to reflect whether I've lived my best."
MacKenzie has a passion for comforting others who undergo circumstances similar to the ones she experienced. She founded "I Win Ministries" (www.iwinministries.org), which offers hope to the hurting and equips people to make it through tough times triumphantly.
Confronted with her own mortality, says MacKenzie, she knows that she, like her late husband, will confidently respond, "Either way, I win."
