Steven Mosher to Speak Against Population Control at Heritage Foundation Book Event

FRONT ROYAL, Va., June 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- Steven W. Mosher, president of the Population Research Institute and author of the recently published work, Population Control-Real Costs, Illusory Benefits, will appear at a Heritage Foundation Book Event on Friday, June 13th, at 12:00 noon.

In Population Control-Real Costs, Illusory Benefits, Mosher writes about how, for over half a century, those committed to population control have perpetrated a gigantic, costly, and inhumane fraud upon the human race. They have robbed people of the developing countries of their progeny and the people of the developed world of their pocketbooks. Determined to stop population growth at all costs, those Mosher calls "population controllers" have abused women, targeted racial and religious minorities, undermined primary health care programs, and even encouraged dictatorial actions.

Advocates for the overpopulation premises conjure up images of poverty, Mosher writes, low incomes, poor health, unemployment, malnutrition, overcrowded housing to justify anti-natal programs. The irony is that such policies have in many ways caused what they predicted - a world which is poorer materially, less diverse culturally, less advanced economically, and plagued by disease. Many in the movement want to see negative population numbers. Such a goal would be counterproductive to its avowed aims as well as have dangerous consequences for the global environment.

The event will give Mosher the opportunity to explain the rationale behind his new book, as well as to answer any questions.

The Population Research Institute (PRI) was founded in 1989 by Fr. Paul Marx, OSB, PhD and is dedicated to: (1) ending human rights abuses committed in the name of "family planning", (2) opposing outdated social and economic paradigms premised on the myth of overpopulation, (3) informing the public about the social and economic benefits of moderate population growth, and (4) promoting pro- natal and pro-family attitudes and policies worldwide. Steven Mosher is the author of numerous books, including A Mother's Ordeal, available in 11 languages.
